Rotary International Theme 2008-2009 - Make Dreams Real

RotaryInternationalPresident: Dong Kurn Lee

District 7930 Governor:  Thomas Elliott

February 3, 2009

This week’s meeting of the Chelsea Rotary Club was called to order by President Saritin at 12:13PM.  The blessing was given by Dr. Tom and PP Allan led us in God Bless America.  The planned menu of steak and lobster was changed at the last minute as someone accidentally spilled crushed peanut butter crackers over the food.  Instead of steak and lobster we dined on tomato vegetable soup, cold cuts and an Italian ice cream dessert.

The meeting started with 19 members present.  By time the late arrivals sat down for lunch, Joanne, Rick, Jay, Peter, PP Sue, Joe P., PP Charlene, Jackie and Secretary Monique, we had 28 members present.

Acting Secretary PP Patrick gave the secretary’s report.  We had two guests; Al Gallant, Jr., guest of Lois and  Daniel Viggiani, guest of President Saritin.  We also were privileged to have Interact advisor Ilana Ascher and four Interact members present, Carolina, Eunice, Javier and Jerima.  There was one birthday, President Saritin.  Secretary Monique arrived just as the Secretary’s report was completed.

Sergeant-at-Arms Mike took charge.  The general fine was for anyone who did not know the difference between partly cloudy and partly sunny.  None had the correct answer.  The correct answer can be found at   http://wiki.answers.com/Q/What_is_the_difference_between_partly_cloudy_and_partly_sunny.

Happy and sad moments –

PP Mike was happy to have celebrated his son’s 10th birthday.

PP Patrick was happy to serve as Secretary-in-Training and to have the Interact members present.

PP Susan was happy for the Diva’s outing and the fact that none of the discussions of boy friends and other items of interest were made public.  PP Susan was also happy Interact was celebrating it’s 1st year anniversary.

PP Joe was sad for the Canadians’ uniforms worn at last weekend’s game.

Peter, from the Mill Hill Club paid for missing 1 to 6 weeks, or however many.

Joanne was happy for her grand child’s 4th birthday.

Rick R. was happy for Interact.

Secretary Monique paid a fine for being late, happy to have Interact present and that the Steelers won their 6th Super Bowl.

PP Barry paid for leaving early to do a favor for a friend and for Monique’s Steelers.

Joe P paid a sad fine because he felt the Steelers did not deserve to win.

Chief Brian was happy to be back to work.

PP Allan paid for hopefully a successful Pot-of-Gold and announced the snowmobile trip is on.

Joel was happy to be here.

President Saritin was happy to have Daniel as her guest, Interact was present and also paid her I.O.U.s.

Juan was happy for Interact and to see Daniel.  He was also happy about his son’s 1st report card.

Jackie was happy to be here.

PP Charlene was happy for Interact, Juan’s Colombia project dinner and that son Chris made the honor roll.

Mary Jane was happy her mother celebrated her 92nd birthday and did not get a speeding ticket for driving her wheelchair too fast.

Dr. Tom was happy for Interact and having been in Illinois to celebrate President Lincoln’s 200th birthday.

The four Interact members gave a brief presentation on the projects undertaken during their 1st year as a club.  They are currently working on a program with the Chelsea Historical Commission to celebrate President’s 200th birthday.  They will be conducting an essay contest with the 1st prize being $500.  A power point presentation highlighted the projects of the 1st year.  The projects included holding a pie throwing fundraiser, volunteering for Cradle for Crayons, helping cleanup Quigley Park, collecting items for care packages to be sent to soldiers in Iraq, helping at the Chelsea Rotary Club Cultural Celebration, sponsoring student government day at Chelsea City Hall and running a career speakers program.  It was an impressive 1st year.
