President Saritin opened today's meeting with the Salute to the Flag and Paula gave a very nice blessing. Pres. Saritin began the God Bless America song but it sounded almost as off key as our birthday singing!
After a delicious lunch, Secretary Monique reported many guests-Bob Alconada, guest of P.P. Charlene, Judy Mastracola, guest of P.P. Joe V., James D'Amico IV, guest of P.P. Jim. Birthdays included MIA P.P. Kevin and Juan (Columbian-bound at Rotoplast mission), and P.P. Mike. Perfect attendance has a long list but there are many of you that have not been attending, please make every effort to be here because it is important to support our president and the club.
Acting SAA Mike did the happy and sad moments, there was no general fine, but he gave out kisses (Hershey's chocolates) to all who bought tickets to the recent Pot O' Gold foundraiser. Among the happy/sad moments were P.P. Joe announced the goal of our fundraiser was met and $5,000 in scholarship money will be donated to deserving college-bound Chelsea residents. He was happy for the warm weather and looking forward to becoming a grandfather in 2 weeks. P.P. Sue can not wait until tax season is over. P.P. Patrick is almost done with school. Christian reported that Juan is doing well and the mission has done 125 operations. Pres. Saritin is looking forward to her upcoming wedding. Fella is happy to soon be a grandfather. Many members were happy for a successful pot o gold.
Our vocational speaker was Chief Brian. He told us that Chelsea Police force is one of the oldest, dating back to 1857. He grew up in Chelsea with his two brothers and worked since he was very young, starting as a newspaper boy, then a mail clerk at the Metro Credit Union. Brian graduated Chelsea High School and Framingham State and played hockey for both. he went on to the police academy and after graduating he joined the Chelsea Police. He studied very hard and quickly was promoted to sargent, then leutenant, then captain. In November, 2007 he become Chief of Police. He has attended the FBI Academy, was president of the policeman's union, and the first Internal affairs officer in Chelsea. He also attended Suffolk Law School. He is very proud to be in Chelsea and is happy that he is able to hire more officers when most cities are facing layoffs. Great job Brian.
