Rotary International Theme 2008-2009 - Make Dreams Real

RotaryInternationalPresident: Dong Kurn Lee

District 7930 Governor:  Thomas Elliott

March 24, 2009

Since President Saritin Martinez Rizzuto is on her honeymoon, there was great discussion on what the actual time was, when to begin the meeting and who was to lead us! Finally, P.P. Joe rang the bell quite loudly and we gave the Salute to the Flag. P.P. Sergio gave a very nice blessing and Tom lead us in song.

After lunch, acting Pres. Joe introduced Secretary Monique who introduced guests, Bob Alcanada, Bob Richmond, Marilyn-guest of Lois ( or is it Louis?), Gerry Lewis-guest of Anne and our speaker, Assad Faquir. Candy bars were sold to help raise money for our high school Interact club and there were Lincoln Bi-Centenial sheets for gifts. A card from our effecient and polite server, Peter,  was read thanking the club for his Xmas gift.

SAA Mike had an unusual general fine; there were 3 unsold candy bars and everyone had to pay a fine until they were all sold, but he wouldn't stop the fining until he reached that person, Joe P.. Many of the members paid happy moment fines for attending Pres. Saritin's beautiful wedding. Lois was back from a cruise. P.P. Bruce paid for a cellphone call and P.P. Allan was happy that his rotary bowling team is in second place. Rick R. was sad that his heating unit broke but happy that his daughter was accepted to a summer program at Harvard U.. Juan was glad to be home from the Rotary Rotoplast mission and seeing the ground-breaking of the Columbian hospital project. Joe P. and Sue attended even though they are both totally consumed with tax season, they are truly dedicated to rotary and serve as an example that no matter how busy your day is, find time for attending our Rotary meetings. P.P. Joe was happy to attend his daughter's bday but sad to have missed Saritin's wedding. Monique came back from visiting with her grandmother with greater respect for her roots.

Tom announced that Thursday at 3pm at the Early Learning Center there will be a presentation of a plaque honoring John Silber.

Our guest speaker was an Ambassadorial scholar, Assad Faquir, who attend the University of Limerick in Ireland for one year. He is originally from West Palm Beach, Florida but now resides in the Boston area and is engaged to a local gal. The Lakeworth Club in Florida sponsored Assad and he has been in the banking field and holds a Masters Degree in Human Resources. He has also graduated Florida State U. and Temple U. He was very impressed by the great passion that the Irish people have for their sports, like rugby, hurling, and Gaelic football.

P.P. Allan announced that the Chelsea Chamber of Commerce officers' reception is this Friday night at the Logan Hilton. Joanne won the raffle of $24 and a candy bar!

Have a happy week and enjoy the warmer weather

P.P. Barry
