Rotary International Theme 2008-2009 - Make Dreams Real

RotaryInternationalPresident: Dong Kurn Lee

District 7930 Governor:  Thomas Elliott

March 31, 2009

President-Elect Brian, filling in for honeymooning Pres. Saritin, began today's meeting with the Salute to the Flag.  Tom did the blessing and led us in song.

Secretary (not treasurer as she was introduced) Monique introduced roamers E. Turner Lewis of Wakefield and Roger Marks of EB/Revere. Guests included Ellen Rovner (Monique), Matthew (Christian), Michelle and Gina from the Chelsea B&G Club (P.P. Mike), and Bob Richmond (Adam). Birthday wishes go out to Rick A. and Mark.

SAA Mike announced the general fine would be anyone who would like to "shout out about someone who has made a difference in your life". Most members mention their grandparents, parents, and/or siblings  who were their mentors.

Announcements:

From P.P.Patrick: Wed April 8th, The Chelsea Interact Club will be participating in Chelsea Government Day. Lunch will be at the Windham Hotel at 12:15pm. Please email Patrick.monkiewicz@kayem.com.

From Ellen Rovner: Sun. April 19th, 2-5pm there will be an exhibit of the Chelsea Jewish Experience and Beyond at the Chelsea Temple Emmanuel, 60 Tudor St. Chelsea.

Our guest speaker today was Juan, who spoke about his experiences with the Rotoplast mission in Columbia and visiting the future site of the Columbian hosptial. During the two weeks, the medical team performed 180 operations on 150 children with cleft palettes. They also had visits from children that they had operated on during the last mission a couple of years ago. Juan thanked the club very much for supporting him and allowing him the opportunity to witness these great achievements. He also visited the ground-breaking (sorry that you missed this one , Peter!) of the new hospital. The natives are anxiously awaiting the completion because it will be a great help to their community.

The raffle was won by P.P. Anne and she donated her winnings to the Chelsea Rotary Scholarship Fund. Thanks Anne!!

Have a great week! See you Tuesday!!!

P.P. Barry
