MAY 12, 2009

Pres. Saritin opened the meeting today with the Salute to the Flag and had Tom give the invocation. P.P. Kevin was back for a visit and led us in best rendition of God Bless America in a very long time! We miss you and your great voice!

After lunch , I was sitting next to SAA Mike and secretary Monique was in the audience, so I was asked to do the secretary’s job, which was my first position back in 1996 when I began in rotary. Since I was doing the rotogram I don’t remember whom I mentioned in the report.

SAA Mike announced the general fine was anyone who fell victim to any toll during Mother’s Day, is exempt. Fella was happy to attend a Red Sox winning game. P.P. Barbara is getting a new car. Mitch pleased that softball season has begun. P.P. Bruce announced that his lovely daughter, Nikki, danced at the convention center and was happy that 3 Boston sports teams are playing tonite. P.P. Allan was happy to celebrate mother’s day on Sunday and P.P. Kevin was offered a manager’s position at Home Depot but turned it down and happy that his daughter, Branigan,  graduated Emerson College. Ken had good news that his wife is now cancer-free. Juan was happy that his cousin graduated dental school (another competitor for Dr. Baskies!!) V.P. Brian is having fun watching the bidding war on a photo he put on Ebay. Many other members were happy for being with their Moms on Sunday. Monique also helped clean up camp rotary for the upcoming RYLA  weekend.

VP Brian announced his slate of officers: Tom president elect, Jackie VP, Mitch SAA, Paula Secretary, Joe V. treasurer, and Carole added to the BOD.

Our guest speaker today was Sindia Jimenez, who was sponsored by our club to visit South Africa as our Group Study Exchange person. Sindia related her wonderful experiences to us accompanied by a slide presentation. She stayed with some host families there, visited HIV clinics and got an understanding of how people live and are treated in third world countries. The government does little to help the sick and needy and those people have a poor quality of life. Sindia  commented that the whole trip was an awesome experience.

P.P. Kevin won the raffle and donated the winnings to Camp Rotary.

Sorry for being late with this report.

P.P. Barry
