President-elect Brian opened the meeting today with the salute to the flag. P.P. Allan led us in a rough, out of tune song (miss you Kevin!) and P.P. Bruce gave a nice blessing.
PE Brian brought a motion before the general membership that was approved by the board to give a $5,000 donation to our Camp rotary fund; it was approved unanimously.
Secretary Monique announced Matt Thayer and Danielle Calvo as guests of Christian. Sam Scott, guest speaker, and Bob Richmond, guest of the club. Lois is celebrating 20 years in rotary.
P.P. Rick G. told us that June 6th will be Chelsea Day and his opinion is that the club should have a table there selling something for fundraising. We do need volunteers to help at the table between 11am and 4pm. Contact Rick or Saritin if you can give your time to help the club.
SAA Mike was happy that he birdied the first hole at golf this morning. The general fine was “pay a fine if you ate anything cooked on a grill during the holiday weekend”. P.P.Sue was not happy with her golf game. Joel was happy that his son was in from California. P.P. Rick did his good deeds by taking his mother to her doctor’s appts. P.P.Barbara celebrated her son’s 30th bday and announced that her daughter is engaged. Rick R. is celebrating his 20th wedding anniversary. I was happy that my daughter is home from San Diego for the summer. MaryJane happy for Kayem’s 100th Anniversary banner on the bridge. Bob R. was happy that one granddaughter graduated on the dean’s list at Bryant and the other graduated Peabody high and will be going to BU. Frank’s happy that his business is celebrating 60 years in business. Brian is celebrating his 9th anniversary and Charlene was proud that her son, Chris, rode in a 100 mile race for the diabetes foundation. Monique announced that her sister is with child and she is proud of her garden.
P.P. Allan announced that P.P. SAA Mike will be the 2009 recipient of the Rotarian of the Year award at this year’s installation. Congrads Mike…well deserved for all he has done for Chelsea Rotary!!
Our guest speaker today was Sam Scott from the New England American Liver Foundation. He gave us great insight and information about the importance of our livers. One in ten Americans have live disease. There are over 100 different causes for liver disease. It is the second largest organ in our bodies and it can rejuvenate itself. We can not live without it and liver transplants are common these days. Surgeons only need half a donated liver to make the old liver rejuvenate. Sam said that the only way to detect a bad liver is to have a liver function test.
Rick R. won the raffle and he donated the money to the Columbian Project.
See ya Tuesday
