President Brian called this week’s meeting of the Chelsea Rotary Club to order. P.P. Bruce offered the prayer and Tom lead the singing. We had 24 Chelsea Rotarians, 2 visiting Rotarians and 3 guests in attendance. There were not late arrivals.
Secretary Paula gave her report. Our visiting Rotarians were ADG Peggy Pedro from the Peabody Club and Ed Bride from the North Andover Club. Juan had as his guest his daughter Melissa and Brian had as his guest his brother Kevin Kyes. Jon Marcus was a guest of the Club. Secretary Paula mentioned she forgot to announce Carol’s birthday in October but that did not help our singing of Happy Birthday. Paula announced five anniversaries; Frank, Peter, P.P. Kevin, P.P. Diane and Adam.
Sergeants-At-Arms Mitch took the floor for happy and sad fines:
Brian wished good luck to all the candidates running for office.
P.P. Mike was not happy to receive his first ad for a Hoveround. That is worse than your 1st AARP card.
Ken was sad his boat was out of the water after such a nice weekend. He was happy to be going on vacation but couldn’t remember when.
P.P. Allan was happy for a success full Chamber Pot-O-Gold and for sharing in the winnings.
Rick was sad he missed last week.
P.P. Joe was happy to have visited with his son’s family.
ADG Peggy announced the “Loose Change for Polio Plus” program. There are still 4 countries reporting new cases of polio.
P.P. Barbara is going on vacation.
Tom missed a meeting but spent time with his grand children.
P.P. Charlene was sad the foreign exchange student had left.
P.P. Sue was happy for the successful Pot-O-Gold, her father won $2,000 at the Pot-O-Gold, BC’s win which qualified them for a Bowl game and sharking around Salem Halloween.
Juan announced his son’s 8th birthday and he was happy to have his daughter with him for lunch.
Visiting Rotarian Ed was happy to meet new friends..
Peter announced he has now been a Rotarian longer than he was a member of the other club. He also has 3 straight months with perfect attendance the 1st week of the month.
Christian went trick or treating with his 4 year old. The others were either too old or too young. He also won $50 at the Pot-O-Gold and then bought a set of Big Bertha irons for $75 which means he lost $25.
Carol was not thrilled Secretary Paula remembered she for forgot to announce Carol’s birthday and therefore had to listen to us sing.
Secretary Paula finally had her boat shrink wrapped, it was a beautiful day for the election and her cell phone rang.
President Brian announced we received a thank you from the Taste of Chelsea for our donation.
Juan announced that some Rotarians and friends had donated $1,000 to the Colombia project. We still need to raise $2,250.
P.P. Barbara won the main raffle. P.P. Allan won a secondary raffle of 2 scratch tickets, the proceeds or which would be donated to the lantern. After about 5 minutes P.P. Allan and his consultants were able to announce the State was the only winner.
Meeting was adjourned at 1:00.
Notes from 11/3/2009 Board meeting:
Jonathan Marcus was approved for membership. The induction will take place next week.
Kevin Kyes was approved for membership pending a favorable recommendation form Membership Chairman P.P. Allan.
A ¼ page ad in the Chelsea Collaborative’s Holiday Gala ad book was approved. Mitch abstained.
The Board voted to recommend to the membership that $300 be pledged to the FUEL program for the next 5 years. Tom abstained.
