Rotary International Theme 2009-2010

The Future of Rotary is in Your Hands

Rotary International President: John Kenny

District 7930 Governor:  Ingrid Brown

FEBRUARY 23, 2010

This week’s meeting of the Chelsea Rotary Club was opened with President Brian leading the Club in the Pledge of Allegiance.  P.P. Bruce offered the blessing and Asst. District Governor Jack Donaldson led the singing of God Bless America.  Arriving late were P.P. Sue, Christian, Joe and Jay.  Leaving early was P.P. Allan.  There were 28 Chelsea Rotarians and 6 Rotarians from the East Boston/Revere attending the meeting.

Secretary Paula announced one birthday, Matt and two anniversaries, Christian 9 years and P.E. Tom 6 years.  Secretary Paula introduced our guests; Asst. District Governor Jack Donaldson, Roamer Ed McBride from Andover and Marilyn Murphy, a guest of Christian.

Sergeants-At-Arms Mitch took the floor to collect happy and sad fines.

The general fine was a two part question:

1.     What significant legislation was approved by the 1989 Rotary Council on Legislation?

2.     What is significant about today’s date in Rotary history?

P.P. Mike had a wonderful time in California with his new partner in the pizza shop.

P.P. Pat missed last week’s meeting and announced he was passing out the tickets for the Rotary Scholarship Fundraising Dinner.

P.P. Jim was happy for some success in last week’s bowling match.

Bob R. announced the Florence Center for Living has been licensed and 3 residents have moved in.  There will be an open house this Sunday from 1 – 4.

Bill was happy his twins were invited to join the National Honor Society.

P.P. Barry was happy to finally receive last year’s Christmas card from Gene O’Flaherty.  It was commented that this was probably cultural issue.

P.P. Charlene was sad because rugby season has started but was happy her son Chris was invited to join the Honor Society.

P.P. Allan paid in anticipation of leaving early and announced he will pay a fine next week for not paying three fines PP Kevin gave him two weeks ago.  PP Kevin paid a sad moment for not being able to attend on a regular basis and to see the Chelsea Rotarian, a happy moment for him and BMRH Valarie spending time with PP Allan and Laraine at Kowloons and a third fine that PP Allan couldn't remember.

Christian was happy to have Marilyn as his guest and for golfing last weekend at Franklin Park.

S.A.A. Mitch attended the winter softball meeting last week and took a lot of abuse for Chelsea winning last year’s championship.

Juan made a presentation to the Club on the opening of the medical clinic in Colombia.  The program started with Juan and Asst. District Governor Jack presenting East Boston/Revere Rotarian Roger Marks a certificate from Club Rotario Pereira Pula Del Otun for his generous contributions to the project.
