JUNE 1, 2010
Today’s meeting of the Chelsea Rotary Club was called to order by President Brian.
PP Bruce offered the blessing and PE Tom lead the singing of “God Bless America”. There were 27 members present and 4 guests. Late arrivals were Bill, PP Mike and Joe P. Christian, Fella and PP Saritin left early.
Secretary Paula did not make it back from the Cape so there were no announced birthdays or Rotary anniversaries. There were 4 guests attending the meeting; PP Allan introduced John Tryder from East Pointe Nursing Home, PP Charlene introduced Sharon Birchall from Metro Credit, Rev. Whitney was a guest of the Club and Erika Alvarez Werner was the guest speaker.
SSA Mitch announced the general fine was for anyone who opened their swimming pool or participated in a cookout Memorial Day weekend.
The following happy/sad fines were paid as well as almost every member paid the general fine:
PP Barbara spent the weekend in Kennebunkport, ME attending a wedding.
PP Joe did not open a pool, did not have a BBQ but had an enjoyable weekend in Maine.
PE Tom enjoyed the Chelsea High School Band performance at the Chelsea Memorial Day celebration.
Rick R. paid for celebration his 21st wedding anniversary.
PP Mike had a nice weekend on his new boat. The Coast Guard boarded the boat and performed a safety inspection. The boat passed with flying colors and PP Mike was referred to as Captain by the Coast Guard officer, but the real captain of the boat did not recognize PP Mike’s title.
PP Charlene was happy her son Chris was accepted into the National Honor Society and his Eagle project for the Boy Scouts was approved.
Jon celebrated his 6th anniversary, or maybe his 5th.
Bob R. celebrated his birthday on Saturday the 29, the date on his birth certificate, and on Sunday the 30th, the date his mother said was his birthday.
Joe P. was unhappy about the Cape traffic.
PP Allan had a good weekend. He cooked out but ate in.
VP Ken cooked himself this weekend.
Madelyn attended her daughter’s graduation from Pope John High School.
Juan was sad his daughter had broken her arm and now needs surgery Friday to reset the arm
PP Saritin celebrated Dominican Mothers’ Day and the Celtics victory.
John was sad he worked on Memorial Day.
President Brain and his wife celebrated their 10th wedding anniversary and skipped everything else for the weekend.
SAA Mitch paid for missing last week, failing to provide raffle tickets for last week and the disappointing softball game.
The guest speaker was Erika Alvarez Werner form Project Bread. The annual Walk for Hunger is not Project Bread’s only focus. They also work with local school systems to help increase school breakfast participation. They have also received a 2 year Federal grant to increase participation in the SNAP program (formally referred to as food stamps) by the Latino population in Chelsea and Worcester.
The raffle was $118 and Jackie and Ken were the unlucky non-winners.
