The June 29, 2010 meeting of the Chelsea Rotary Club was called to order by President Brian.  PP Bruce offered the blessing and PE Tom lead the singing of “God Bless America”.  There were 25 members present and 2 guests.  Late arrivals were

PP Charlene, PP Saritin and Monique.  Jay left early.

ANNOUNCEMENTS

 

PP Barry announced that PP Rick’s mother fell and broke her hip.  She is recovering at the Leonard Florence Center for Living.  While visiting PP Rick’s mother PP Barry ran into Bob Richman who fell a couple of weeks ago.  When the pain did not go away Bob had x-rays taken.  It was discovered he had broken his patella bone.  Bob is also recovering at the Leonard Florence Center for living where he has gone from being a volunteer to being a patient.

Acting Secretary PP Bruce announced PP Joe and Joanne were celebrating birthdays this week.  There were no Rotary anniversaries.  Monique introduced her guest Leonel who did his best to occupy the attention of the grandparents at Monique’s table.  The other guest was Steve Winkler who was the guest speaker.  

 

SSA Mitch took center stage and announced the general fine pertained to the question

“what significant achievement for the Chelsea Rotary Club during the 2009 – 2010 year was not mentioned by President Brian at the installation”.

 

The following happy/sad fines were paid:

 

Joel won the Chelsea clock at the installation dinner.  It was much better that the lighting yoyo he won when PP Bob was President.

  

 

 

 

PP Sue missed the installation as she continued celebrating reaching the big 50 with 8 girl friends who also reached the milestone in Bermuda.  PP Sue was also happy the 1st group of 10 Chelsea children had successfully arrived at Camp Rotary.

 

PP Charlene announced her son Chris had left for Peru, which allowed PP Charlene and her husband Bill to celebrate their 25th wedding anniversary in Tampa.

 

Joe was happy to have spent 4 days on the Cape.

 

PP Joe was honored to have received the Rotarian of the Year award, was happy the wedding rehearsal and wedding went off successfully and to celebrate his birthday.

 

Jay was looking forward to his youngest celebrating his 16th birthday and his oldest going on his 1st job interview.

 

PP Allan celebrated his 40th wedding anniversary and finally learned how to pronounce Bob’s last name, we think.

 

Bob enjoyed 4 days of golf in Bethel, Maine.

 

PE Ken was happy to have the guest speaker present and enjoyed the installation.

 

PP Saritin was happy to have such great community supporters as Kayem Food and John’s Pizza who helped sponsor last weekend’s Peace in the Family Day.

 

PP Patrick wanted to congratulate the out-going and in-coming officers and directors and enjoyed the Parade of Lights on the Danvers River.  Their boat came in 2nd.

 

Fella enjoyed the morning’s skins game.  He did not share any winnings with the Club.

 

PP Mike was glad he did not get rid of the little boat since the big boat is still being repaired.

 

SAA Mitch was happy for the softball team’s victory over the Lawrence club.

 

President Brain announced the Club received a thank you from the Salvation Army for our donation.  They purchased 420 new books for their library.  We also received a thank you from Shelter Box for sponsoring three shelters for the Haitian relief effort.

 

The guest speaker was Steve Winkler, owner and Senior Captain of Sea Tow Boston.  Sea Tow took over non-emergency towing from the Coast Guard.  Sea Tow is performs functions on water similar to what AAA performs on roadways.  You can join Sea Tow for $149 a year and their services are than free same as AAA.  If you are not a member and need assistance you pay for the assistance.  Sea Tow Boston performs services such as towing, supply fuel and salvage.  There are 120 Sea Tow franchises in the United States.  Steve showed pictures of fuel assistance, towing and salvage operations.

The weekly raffle was $194.  the unlucky winners were Jay and Ken.

 

 

 

Softball Notes:

 

            6/23/2010 –     Chelsea beat Lawrence 14 to 11.

 

            6/30/2010 –     Annual softball picnic at Danvers.  All Rotarians and their                                                family and friends are invited.
